ROHS 2.0 Environmental Testing

Halogen is a group of non-metal elements in Group 7A, including Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine, Iodine, and Astatine. Astatine is a radioactive element, but when referring to halogens, people usually mean Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine, and Iodine. A substance is considered halogen-free according to the IEC 61249-2-21 standard if the bromine and chlorine contents are less than 900ppm each, and the sum of bromine and chlorine contents is less than 1500ppm. There are no specified limits for fluorine and iodine in the HF test.

Relationship between ROHS and SGS

ROHS is a type of report that can be issued by different testing agencies.

SGS is a professional third-party testing agency established by the European Union in China, with strong authority. Typically, only ROHS reports issued by SGS testing agencies are recognized by the EU.

REACH Regulation

"Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals" is an EU regulation for the preventive management of all chemicals entering its market. According to this regulation, the European Commission will establish a unified chemical monitoring management system and complete the management of all relevant chemicals by 2012. Compared to other directives implemented by the EU in recent years, the REACH regulation has a wider scope of influence. It includes approximately 30,000 chemicals and downstream products in the EU market, including textiles, light industry, pharmaceuticals, etc., into three management and monitoring systems: registration, evaluation, and authorization. Products not included in this management system cannot be sold in the EU market. REACH is a preventive management regulation of all chemicals entering the EU market. On January 17, 2022, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) officially announced a new batch of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs), updating the SVHC list to 225 items.

VOC Testing

VOC stands for volatile organic compounds. In the environmental sense, VOC refers to a class of active volatile organic compounds that can cause harm.

The World Health Organization (WHO, 1989) defines total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) as the total of volatile organic compounds with melting points below room temperature and boiling points between 50-260°C.

Different organizations have different definitions and ranges of volatile organic compounds.

Currently, domestic testing agencies in China conduct tests according to Appendix B of HGT 2492-2018 "α-Cyanoacrylate Instant Adhesive," with a limit of 20g/Kg.

Instant adhesives containing volatile solvents such as dichloromethane, dichloroethane, chloroform, acetone, toluene, xylene, etc., do not meet VOC requirements.

VOC Testing

TDS stands for Technical Data Sheet, which describes the basic performance, characteristics, application range, routine test data, usage precautions, and storage methods of

What is MSDS?

MSDS stands for Material Safety Data Sheet or SDS (Safety Data Sheet). It includes the basic performance, hazard overview, main chemical component list, toxicity of main chemical components, protection, first aid, fire-fighting, leakage disposal, biotoxicity, ecological impact, and waste disposal of the product.
